Tijuana's Michelin-level street tacos have arrived in Gaslamp.
Why it matters: Tacos El Franc opens its second San Diego location Wednesday, which means there's another spot to get your hands on some of the city's best tacos.
- It's the next step in the famous taqueria's planned expansion throughout the U.S., which started here in May.
Dig in: The new Gaslamp location offers a quicker counter service, compared to the table service dining at the Westfield Plaza Bonita location in National City. And it will serve the late-night crowd on weekends.
- The tacos come out fast, and are best when they're hot and fresh, so co-owner Roberto Kelly suggests ordering a couple at a time then going back up for more.
Best bites: There's a reason their top-selling tacos are the adobada shaved from the spit and the charcoal-grilled carne asada topped with pinto beans.
- Both come with slathered with guacamole, onions, cilantro, salsa and lime to squeeze on top.
The sweet, cinnamon horchata is also must order. It's like drinking ice-cold milk from a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.
Stop by: Tacos El Franc is open 4pm-midnight Monday-Wednesday, 4pm-2am Thursday-Saturday and 11am-7pm on Sundays at 528 5th Ave. downtown.
