More than 100 surfers paddled out last month to honor Mike Hynson, the local surf legend who starred in "The Endless Summer" and died in January.
Zoom in: The tribute off Windansea Beach featured surf music, water cannons and the spreading of Hynson's ashes with sparkling abalone shells while a large set and a pod of dolphins rolled through, according to Surfer Magazine.
About 500 people attended on the bluff and in the water, making it one of the largest paddle outs in San Diego's history, Fox5 reported.
