New eateries coming to Little Italy's food hall this fall

The former Little Italy Food Hall is set to reopen this fall with five new eateries and an indoor-outdoor bar.

Why it matters: The space at Piazza della Famiglia has the potential to be a dining destination in the heart of the busy downtown neighborhood that attracts locals and tourists.

Driving the news: Tiger Hospitality Group is bringing Cosmos Burger, Lobster Lab, and La Vida, a breakfast and lunch cafe, to the venue.

They're in negotiations with a pizza place, and looking to add a fresh pasta concept plus a few dessert kiosks.

Catch up quick: Food hall operator Berke Bakay, who's also behind Windmill in Carlsbad, took over the Little Italy food hall space after it suddenly closed in February.

San Diego's award-winning BASILE Studio is redesigning the 4,685-square-foot space to spill out into the plaza.

Zoom in: Tiger Hospitality's plan is to create a "European piazza-inspired atmosphere" with indoor and outdoor seating "ideal for lingering over lunch, cocktails, or dessert."

A central bar will connect the plaza to the restaurants inside, and there will be live music, fitness and wellness events and cooking demos, plus a large window to watch fresh pasta being made daily.

What we're watching: There new name that hasn't been revealed yet.
