Elton John, James Taylor and other San Diego concerts worth seeing this week

🎹 Neal Francis,a singer-songwriter-pianist from New Orleans who lives up to that city's lofty lineage of singer-songwriter-pianists, is playing Belly Up Wednesday. Psych-rock opener Color Green rips, too.

🎤 MIKE, a New York-based rapper on his way up, is playing Quartyard on Wednesday night (Quartyard has an early curfew, if that sweetens the pot for ya.)

🎺 Uptown Rhythm Makers play their traditional New Orleans-style jazz without a cover at Panama 66 on Thursday night.

🚀 Elton John is coming out of semi-retirement for one night only at Petco Park on Friday night, benefitting Curebound, the local nonprofit that funds innovative cancer research. (Tickets are cheaper than you're imagining.)

🧊 Toro y Moi brings their distinct chillwave sound, along with Panda Bear, to Humphreys Concerts by the Bay on Friday.

🎶 Ashanti, Mike Jones, Frankie J and more are part of a star-studded lineup at Frontwave Arena on Friday.

🎸 James Taylor brings all the hits you know to the Rady Shell on both Saturday and Sunday.

🪘 Las Calakas and Cumbia Machin combine for a night of innovative cumbia at Soda Bar on Sunday.
