Panama 66, Blind Lady Ale House duo to revive defunct Balboa Park food stand

• They will work with the parks and recreation department on a design that aligns with the Balboa Park Central Mesa Precise Plan.

Between the lines: The duo opened Panama 66 in 2014, building it into a go-to park destination for food, drinks and live music amid the San Diego Museum of Art's sculpture garden that breathed life into the adjacent Plaza de Panama.

• They'll now look to recreate their magic in a modest space nestled between the Spanish Village Art Center, the Casa del Prado Theater, the Moreton Bay Fig Tree and the San Diego Natural History Museum.

The big picture: Mayor Todd Gloria said last year the city would redo the decades-old Balboa Park Master Plan – its blueprint for growth and investment.

• Reviving the Village Grill space is part of his pitch to improve the park, along with renovating the historic-but-downtrodden Starlight Bowl, and the recently completed $28 million Botanical Building reconstruction.
