SDSU women's basketball wins Mountain West, heads to first NCAA tournament since 2012

• It's the first time in conference history that the championship game went to three overtimes.

State of play: The No. 4 seed Aztecs beat the second-seeded Cowgirls 72-68 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

• Junior guard Veronica Sheffey led the team with a career-high 24 points and critical free throws down the stretch. She was named the tournament's most valuable player.
• Freshman point guard Naomi Panganiban scored 17 points and controlled the game with a poise that defied her age.
• Senior forward Cali Clark stepped up with 12 points, 17 rebounds and crucial defense against Allyson Fertig, Wyoming's senior center and the Mountain West player of the year.

What they're saying: "We just have that will to win," coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. "These kids never let down. I'm proud of them, they played really, really hard."

What's next: The Aztecs will learn their first round opponent on selection Sunday.
