San Diego has plenty of ways to celebrate Black heritage and culture during Black History Month through food, sports and music.
Here are some events to check out in February:
π The San Diego Clippers vs. South Bay Lakers game at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside on Feb. 8 will feature cultural dance performances, a pregame networking event and interactive booths with local organizations, including the NAACP.
π» Grammy-award winning Harlem quartet is performing a classical ensemble at Conrad Prebys Concert Hall on Feb. 14.
π¦ΈπΎββοΈ Black Com!x Day celebrates the contributions of Black artists and representation of Black characters in the comic arts at the World Beat Center on Feb. 15 and 16.
π DayGo Eatz brings together food trucks, live performers, face painting and cultural exhibits for a community festival at 6786 Imperial Ave. on Feb. 16.
π€ School Yard Rap is a musical that educates and enlightens about the Black experience and the African diaspora at the Balboa Theater on Feb. 19.
πͺ© The Muse has an exhibition of San Diego's Black art, fashion, music and culture at Quartyard on Feb. 20.
πΆ The 44th Annual Tribute to the Reggae Legends festival is a musical celebration on Feb. 21-22.
π Lakewood with Megan Giddings is an author talk event with Giddings discussing her acclaimed 2020 science fiction novel at the San Diego Central Library on Feb. 24.
π Join a West African cooking class at World Beat Center in Balboa Park on Feb. 28.
π Local universities β SDSU, UCSD and USD β are hosting sports, music, art, educational and cultural events on campus throughout the month.
ποΈ Shop and eat at some Black-owned businesses and restaurants around the county.
π Read a book from the library's lists for kids and adults that center Black characters and highlight the African American experience.
