π Congrats to Drew S. for recognizing Olive Street Park in Bankers Hill!
Zoom in: The $2.3 million pocket park that used to be a vacant lot at the corner of Olive Street and Third Avenue is slightly less than a full acre on the edge of Maple Canyon.
State of play: It's also home to the city's new AIDS Memorial, a tribute to the nearly 10,000 San Diego residents who died of the disease.
Plaques on a viewing deck over the canyon recount the history of the epidemic here.
The existing display is Phase 1 of the memorial, with the AIDS Memorial Task Force aiming to create an art installation in the park recognizing the names of individuals who died of AIDS by this December.
