After a month-long Winstons residency last year, Dogs in a Pile is back in San Diego.
The latest: The improvisational rock, funk and jazz band is headlining Belly Up on Friday, a step up in venue size since their last show here that suggests the time they spent "making a bunch of new friends" in Ocean Beach is paying off.
- Band of Gringos, the Ocean Beach-based, blues-focused power trio led by stud guitarist Cody Sherman is on tap to open, too.
If you go: Doors open at 8:30pm, with Band of Gringos set to begin at 9:30 and Dogs in a Pile due sometime after 10.
- General admission tickets are $29.50, after fees.
Here are five other things happening in town this weekend:
The rodeo is back at Petco Park for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but Saturday is sold out.
- City officials and the Humane Society have not succeeded in passing legislation to prevent the rodeo from occurring, but they did block the event from receiving public promotion dollars.
Grave Digger and the rest of the celebrity monster trucks are headed to Snapdragon Stadium.
- Performances are slated for 5pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday, and tickets start at $49.35.
Go sledding and ice skating, build a snowman or roast marshmallows at this annual event at Poway Community park.
- Free event runs from 5-9pm Friday and 3:30-8:30pm Saturday.
🍻 Brew Festival at Liberty Station
Drink craft beer from more than 70 breweries at this annual event with live music and food trucks.
- Tickets start at $60 for unlimited tasting from 1-4pm Saturday at NTC Park.
Celebrate the grand opening of the restaurant's newest location with bowls of ramen, a DJ and giveaways.
- The free event is 4-10pm on Sunday at the Crown Point location.
