"Art of the Resistance" and 4 other things to do in San Diego this weekend

The Royal Chicano Air Force sought to make cultural arts accessible to the working-class Chicano community while supporting its broader civil rights activism

• The collective led the creation of some murals within Chicano Park, and worked directly with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers.
• Its work created "a visual language for resistance and solidarity" of the movement, the Chicano Park Museum wrote.

What they're saying: "This exhibition is a call to action to learn about our Chicano mentors and leaders who are still here today, and some who have passed," said Valerie Jaimes, the museum's executive director.

• "Sometimes our own community isn't aware of the gem in their own backyard," said Elena Gonzales, a board member of the museum.
• When and where: The Chicano Park Museum, at 1960 National Ave.. Open Thurs. to Sun., from 10am to 4pm.
• Cost: $8 adult admission, $3 for Barrio Logan residents. 18 and under are free.
