Find sneaky good cocktails at Fairplay sports bar

• There's enough bite that you know you're drinking vodka, the coconut isn't overwhelming, and it's not creamy, which is how I prefer them.

The vibe: Sip on this instead of a beer while watching the Padres' playoff run (on every TV) or if you need a boozy pick-me-up for early morning English Premier League games on the back patio.

• The upscale industrial space has an open-air feel with lounge seating, high-top tables and spots at the main bar or the ledge, along large windows facing the street.
• It's a safe bet for finding fans of local teams, whether you're cheering for the Wave or Aztecs.

Andy's thought bubble: In my fairly extensive search for San Diego's best bloody mary, I haven't found many that are clearly better than Fairplay's.

• It pairs nicely with a 10am Sunday kickoff, on the rare occasion that's an option for me.

The intrigue: The mezcal Negroni is also worth tasting.
