Drink with the fish at Birch Aquarium's Oceans at Night

Birch Aquarium's sea creatures are ready to party on Thursdays at the monthly Oceans at Night event.

Why it matters: Visitors can take in underwater exhibits after dark while sipping cocktails and listening to live music.

If you go: The 21+ event happens one Thursday night a month from 6:30-9:30pm, and features interactive experiences, games, food and a twilight kelp dive.

All of the exhibits are open, but the little blue penguins go to bed at 8pm.
Tickets are $40+.

Fun fact: Birch Aquarium at UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography was recently named one of the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

What we're watching: The aquarium announced a new exhibition yesterday called Living Seas that will open next summer, replacing the Hall of Fishes.

It is the aquarium's largest capital improvement since being built in 1992, and renovations begin Sept. 29.
