Giant pandas are ready for San Diego Zoo debut

• The crowds they're expected to draw promise to boost the San Diego Zoo's research and conservation efforts, too.

Driving the news: The pandas have been acclimating to their new habitat since June, and the zoo announced the public date Friday.

• Panda Ridge is four times larger than the zoo's previous panda habitat and intends to emulate China's mountains, canyons and cliffs features — while shade trees and rolling hills will allow Yun Chuan and Xin Bao to explore vertically.

How it works: The zoo has created three ways for guests to see Yun Chuan and Xin Bao:

• On the day of their visit, guests can reserve a complimentary ticket and viewing time by scanning a QR code on signs posted throughout the zoo. Just show up to Panda Ridge at that time.
• Join the standby line at Panda Ridge and wait, beginning at 9:30am.
• Purchase a one-hour, Early Morning with Pandas walking tour led by an expert guide for $92+ per person.
