Reggie Bush has been reinstated as a Heisman Trophy winner, 14 years after he forfeited the distinction.

Why it matters: Bush reclaiming his trophy means San Diego again boasts four guys who became the most outstanding players in college football.

Between the lines: Bush forfeited his trophy in 2010, following an investigation that found he and his family broke NCAA rules by accepting money and gifts from a third party.

Zoom in: Bush grew up in Spring Valley and graduated from Helix High.

  • He originally won the trophy at USC in 2005 (his Helix teammate, Alex Smith, was the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NFL Draft).

San Diego's other winners are:

  • Ricky Williams, who won the 1998 Heisman at the University of Texas after graduating from Patrick Henry High.
  • Rashaan Salaam, who won the 1994 Heisman at Colorado, where he went after playing at La Jolla Country Day.
  • Marcus Allen, who won the 1981 Heisman, also at USC, where he went following a legendary career at Lincoln High.
