Need to grab a drink on the way to a holiday party to avoid showing up empty-handed? We've got you covered.

Driving the news: Holiday beers from San Diego breweries are hitting shelves and tap lists as we speak. Here's a rundown of some of our favorites:

  • Gnoel de Abbey, by The Lost AbbeyAn 8.5% ABV holiday brown ale that offers cocoa, vanilla and holiday spices.
  • Home for Holihaze, a collaboration brew from Pure Project and Burgeon Beer Company — The fifth iteration of this double hazy IPA from two of the region's best breweries is a holiday beer made for San Diego — more hoppy and refreshing, less spicy and cozy.
  • Santa's Little Helper, by Pizza Port Brewing Company After years of being brewed by Port Brewing Co., this imperial stout is now a Pizza Port product, but still brings the coffee and chocolate flavor with 10% ABV.
  • Xocoveza, by Stone Brewing — Billed as "inspired by Mexican hot chocolate," Xocoveza grew into a seasonal tradition after success as a one-off special release.
  • Holiday Hero by AleSmith Brewing CompanyYep, another imperial stout, this one packed with chocolate, vanilla and nutmeg.

The bottom line: Pop into your neighborhood tasting room and let us know what other holiday beers stand out.
