Pittsburgh is getting another close-up as the cast and crew of HBO Max's Emmy-winning medical drama "The Pitt" return to the North Side this week to film exterior scenes for its third season.
The big picture: Cameras will roll Tuesday through Thursday at Allegheny General Hospital, the real-life inspiration for the show's fictional ER.
- Filming will span the hospital's entrances, LifeFlight helipad and a makeshift homeless encampment beneath I-279 on the North Side.
Zoom in: Stars Noah Wyle (Dr. Robby), Katherine LaNasa (Nurse Dana), Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon) and Taylor Dearden (Dr. Mel King) spoke with reporters at the hospital Monday to dish on the drama brewing in the ER next season.
- Wyle said his character returns from sabbatical ready to confront his struggles and seek help, TribLive reports.
- He said this season will address President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, including mounting pressures on hospital care, insurance and social services.
The intrigue: LaNasa said the cast has already dined at Barcelona Wine Bar in Downtown and shopped at Steel City Clothing.
- Local artist Erik Greenawalt welcomed the cast with a 10-by-18-foot chalk portrait outside the hospital's ER.

Stunning stat: More than 27,000 people auditioned for a chance to appear as extras in Pittsburgh, but only a few hundred are expected to make the cut.
Between the lines: The show films exterior shots in Pittsburgh, but recreates its hospital interiors on a Warner Bros. soundstage in California.
What's next: This season will take place over a single shift set on Nov. 12 and will air in January 2027 on HBO Max.
