Greenfield schoolyard gets a green makeover

Greenfield PreK-8 received playground equipment for its new schoolyard last week, converting an empty concrete lot with help from California-based Trust for Public Land.

Why it matters: Expanding access to parks and green spaces gives children more room to play and increases neighborhood climate resiliency.

By the numbers: About 400 students and 2,500 neighbors will have access to the park.

What's next: Rep. Summer Lee (D-Swissvale) introduced the Revitalizing America's Schoolyards Act of 2026 to provide federal funds to turn more empty lots into play areas.
