Fans visiting the NFL Draft will have access to the field at Acrisure Stadium and can even kick field goals through the uprights, NFL officials tell Axios.
Why it matters: The NFL Draft is taking over the North Shore and Point State Park on April 23-25, which will provide fans not just up-close views of football prospects, but also a festival atmosphere for hundreds of thousands of visitors.
The big picture: The draft footprint is over 4 million square feet, and will include local food vendors, arts, music, and sports activities in addition to NFL teams picking new players, NFL vice president of global events Nicki Ewell tells Axios.
Zoom in: Fans will have access to the field at Acrisure Stadium during the draft, and can kick field goals just like Steelers Pro Bowler Chris Boswell.
- The Steelers' six Super Bowl trophies will be on display at Point State Park for selfies.
- Current and former Steelers players will be signing autographs at the Point.
- The new mini field outside of Acrisure will host kids' football activities as part of the NFL's Play 60 initiative.
Zoom out: Over 50 million viewers worldwide are expected to watch the draft on television, and Pittsburgh is putting on its best for the show.
- Construction of the main theater stage started Tuesday and everything is on schedule, said NFL director of operations Steve Farago.
- Theater orientation means crowd shots will include Pittsburgh's skyline, rivers and bridges. "It is going to be pretty special," he said.
- A red carpet event for top prospects will be hosted at the Point, with background views of the fountain and the Ohio River.
- Infrastructure buildout at Point State Park will begin April 10.
Listen up: Three national music acts will perform free concerts at the draft, Ewell said. Acts will be announced soon.
- Local artists will also perform on smaller stages throughout the campus.
Dig in: Scores of local food vendors will fill the campus, and they get to keep 100% of their revenue, she said.
