Summer is months away, but you can still affordably swim in Pittsburgh.
Why it matters: The city recently reopened the Oliver Bath House, its only indoor public swimming pool, bringing back one of the most budget-friendly swimming options in the region.
Zoom in: The South Side pool was closed for over six years.
- It has a new roof, refurbished facades, rehabbed bathrooms and showers, over a dozen individual private changing stalls, and a new dehumidifying system.
What to know: Pay first, with cash or check only. The best deal is to buy an annual pass, which also grants you access to the city's outdoor pools in the summer.
- For city residents, it's $30 per adult and $60 per family of four, plus $10 for each additional member.
- Children 15 and under are free. Residents 60 years and older are $20.
- Non-residents pay $45 for an annual pass.
- You can also pay $5 for daily admission.

How it works: After purchasing your pass or admission, walk upstairs and find a locker. Bring your own lock if you want items to be secure.
- Pick a changing room on the balcony, then rinse off in the bathroom showers before heading down to the pool.
- Hours are split to accommodate open swim, which is mostly wading and playing, and lap swim for exercising.
🩴 Pro tip: Bring your own towel and sandals!
The vibe: The water is comfortably warm and the bath house itself is very toasty.
- It's bright and clean.
- Soft contemporary music plays at a low volume over the speakers.
- Accessible changing rooms, lockers, and bathrooms are on the first floor.

💠Ryan's thought bubble: I love swimming but have struggled to find affordable options outside of the summer. Private gyms, the JCC or YMCAs are still a bit out of my price range for swimming just once a week. Oliver Bath House is now the best option.
- Check out the Kingsley Association in Larimer for another affordable indoor pool.
If you go: The Oliver Bath House is at 38 S. 10th St., South Side. Check the calendar for open and lap swim times.
- 7:30am-4pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- 7:30am-8pm Tuesday and Thursday.
- Noon-8pm Saturday and Sunday.
