Health care workers and supporters gathered Saturday near the Fred Rogers Memorial on the North Shore for a vigil honoring Alex Pretti, the ICU nurse killed by federal agents in Minneapolis.
Zoom in: Speakers at the vigil, organized by SEIU Healthcare, said intensified immigration enforcement tactics are driving fear in Pittsburgh — not just Minneapolis.
What they're saying: Jen Davison, a nurse practitioner at UPMC Magee-Womens, said she's seen patients reluctant to seek care, including a woman who legally immigrated to the U.S. and suffered days of cancer pain at home to avoid the hospital.
"No one should be afraid to seek the care that they need," she said.
