It's time to figure out which nostalgic Pittsburgh place we miss the most.
The big picture: Change is hard here and we love to reminisce, so why not turn our love for the past into a contest?
The latest: Kaufmann's department store beat out The Original Hot Dog Shop, aka "The O," to claim the nostalgic crown in our bracket-style tournament.
Case in point: Some of us still tell friends to meet at the Kaufmann's clock Downtown, even though there's a Target there now.
- For some, it will always be Kaufmann's, like how the corner of Forbes and Bouquet will always be The O to others, even though they serve tacos these days.
Zoom in: We asked and heard from you, then pulled together Pittsburgh's 16 most-missed places that used to be here.
- They include Three Rivers Stadium, The O, Kaufmann's, Civic Arena, the Log Jammer ride at Kennywood, the old airport's tram, Shadow Lounge club in East Liberty (now Lorelei), and Century III Mall in West Mifflin.
- Others are the Beehive coffee shop in South Side (now a Bank of America branch), Club Zoo in the Strip District, the Top of the Triangle restaurant that was on top of the U.S. Steel Tower, Bloomfield Bridge Tavern (aka BBT), Hills department stores, Hambone's bar in Lawrenceville (now The Derby), David's Shoes in East Liberty, and Candy-Rama in Downtown.
Zoom out: Readers also suggested venerable spots like Cafe Sam restaurant on Baum Boulevard and Del's Italian restaurant in Bloomfield.
- But we had to make the cut somewhere — and tough decisions were made.
