Axios Pittsburgh is back to stir the pot: Who's the greatest living celebrity to come out of the 'Burgh?
Why it matters: Southwestern Pa. has raised a bevy of cultural heavyweights — it's time to put some respect on our name.
The latest: The face-off came down to West Homestead's Jeff Goldblum and Robinson's Michael Keaton — and the caped crusader walked away with the win! Thanks for playing!
Flashback: We put the region's biggest names into a tournament-style bracket, letting readers decide who makes it to the next round.
Zoom in: Stacked with nationally beloved A-listers like Goldblum, Keaton, and Squirrel Hill's Wiz Khalifa, reader feedback helped us round out the bracket and whittle it down.
- The field stretches across sports, music, film and more with names like Mark Cuban, Christina Aguilera, Dan Marino, Billy Porter, Joe Manganiello, Abby Lee Miller, and Aaron Donald.
The intrigue: Our social media followers reminded us of some surprising Pittsburgh ties — like "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua, wrestling legend Kurt Angle, and rocker Bret Michaels, who was born in Butler, raised in Central Pa., but still claims the Steel City as home.
Behind the scenes: The Axios Pittsburgh team spent weeks hashing out who belongs in the bracket, weighing hometown roots, city pride and national influence.
- We had only so many spots. That meant leaving out some we think deserve honorable mentions like Tamara Tunie (longtime "Law & Order: SVU" medical examiner), Joe Montana, Joe Namath, George Benson, Darrelle Revis, Gillian Jacobs, Swin Cash, Bill Cowher — even Meadville's Sharon Stone, a bit too far from Pittsburgh to make the cut.
Caveat: We stuck with living celebrities; otherwise, we know who'd win.
The bottom line: We know a few picks may ruffle some feathers; tell us who you'd swap in!
