If you've ever dreamed of venturing down a charming urban alley to stumble upon a quaint coffee shop oasis, the city now has you covered.
The intrigue: Spot of Coffee opened last month in East Liberty in the alleyway behind Kelly's bar and Paris 66 restaurant, helping to turn a formerly empty road into a destination.
The vibe: Feels like a speakeasy but for coffee, complete with a stylish bar-like counter and comfy seats near the windows.
☕️ Dig in: Syrups, sauces and flavors are made from scratch, owner Nabeel Haque told Axios during our visit.
- I had a banana bread iced latte made with real bananas and a brown butter chocolate chip cookie.
- Both were full of flavor, but not overly sweet.
- The shop has opened up its fall menu, complete with a carrot cake latte and pumpkin cold brew.
Pro tip: The alley is charming, but easy to miss.
- From Highland Avenue, if you find yourself approaching the bridge over the busway, you have gone too far. From Penn Avenue, if you see the plaza in front of Condado Tacos, turn around.
🍳 What's next: Haque said Spot of Coffee will be serving inventive breakfast sandwiches soon, to give people a takeout option in the brunch-heavy part of the neighborhood.
