A new Shadyside restaurant is inviting diners to indulge in coastal luxury.
Why it matters: Palm Palm brings new life to a long-vacant corner space, and it marks the latest hospitality bet from the team behind Downtown's Ritual House.
Zoom in: The project pairs owners Herky and Lisa Pollock with partners Ed and Amanda Smith in a nod to Palm Springs and Palm Beach.
- The space has sat empty since 2018, when Plum Pan Asian Kitchen closed.
The vibe: The interior is inspired by Slim Aarons' photography, which captured elite life in the Coachella Valley in the 1950s-'70s — midcentury modern furniture, brass accents, emerald couches, and wood trim.
- Two private dining rooms are tucked inside, and a large patio adds outdoor dining options. The entire restaurant seats roughly 200 people.
Dig in: The restaurant will offer a seasonally rotating menu of shareable plates influenced by California and South America.
- Highlights for opening week include poke-style sushi tots ($19) featuring crispy sushi rice tots, big eye tuna, cucumber scallion and house poke sauce; and street corn taquitos ($8) with roasted corn, blended cheese and avocado.
- Large plates include Korean fried chicken ($32) and bluefin tuna steak ($43).
- Make plans for brunch.

Best dish: Don't skip the truffle spaghettios with Parmesan cream, black garlic and shaved black truffle ($19) or the coconut mirage with coconut mousse, pineapple compote, pineapple cremeux and coconut whipped ganache ($25).
Best cocktail: Palm Reader with gin, grapefruit, pineapple, orange, cassis, grenadine and lemon ($16).
What they're saying: "We just fell in love with the concept," Herky Pollock tells Axios. "We think dining should be an experience. It should be fun."
