Acai bowls and smoothies shine at Playa Bowls

Dig in: We tried the Electric Mermaid, Playa Passion and Dragon Berry bowls ($13 each).

• Our favorite was the Electric Mermaid bowl, which is topped with blueberry flax granola, pineapple, mango, kiwi, coconut flakes and honey.
• We also tried the Kowabunga smoothie, made with banana, strawberry, blueberry and coconut milk. And the Tropical Twist smoothie was a bright and colorful blend of a passionfruit and mango base, with strawberry and coconut milk.
• Playa Bowls also offers a variety of pressed juices.

The vibe: The shop has free Wi-Fi and outdoor seating.

• Playa Bowls has locations across the country. Murrysville marks its second in the Pittsburgh area, with the other one in the Strip District.
• The shop uses predominantly plant-based ingredients in its bowls and nondairy milks like almond and coconut in its smoothies, making them vegan-friendly.
