After a recent expansion, Many More Marketplace has emerged as one of Pittsburgh's top Asian grocery stores.
What they're saying: Owner Christina Chen moved her store a few blocks from the original Smallman Street location late last year, expanding in the Liberty Avenue spot.
- She told WTAE last week her expansion was fueled by demand for more authentic Asian ingredients, and customers have responded.
- "They always say, 'Oh, thank you. You bought this. I missed this so much. You know that only I can get it from my hometown, but now I can get it here. I'm so happy,'" Chen told WTAE.
🍈 The vibe: The nearly 24,000-square-foot store is organized with bright signs and packed full of products from China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines and more.
- It's one of the best places in the city to find specialty produce from Asia, like the pungent durian fruit.
- It has a fresh seafood department that rivals Wholey's, with over a dozen tanks of live fish, crabs, lobsters and shrimp.
- Its hot pot section has all the goodies needed to make a homemade shareable soup.
Best bites: Roasted ducks hang invitingly in the hot food department, along with dumplings and giant steamed buns.
- The bakery offers several treats that are hard to find, like milk bread, char siu buns, and taro-flavored pastries.
💭 Ryan's thought bubble: The grocer is approachable for foodies who are novices in Asian cuisine, but also varied enough for the most serious shoppers.
