Here's when the Steel Curtain will reopen

Pennsylvania's tallest roller coaster will reopen this month after a season on the sidelines.

Why it matters: After more than a year of downtime, the ride will reopen at 11am on May 24 with a ceremony attended by current and former Pittsburgh Steelers, Kennywood officials say.

Catch up quick: The park shut down the Steel Curtain last season for a major overhaul, adding support columns and structural fixes to cut down on maintenance and keep the ride running longer.

The ride, which debuted in 2019, had repeatedly hit the brakes with multiple shutdowns.

Flashback: The Steel Curtain is the centerpiece of Steelers Country, a themed area named after the legendary 1970s Steelers defensive line.

The 220-foot-tall coaster broke multiple records at launch — tallest coaster in the state, most inversions in North America (nine) and the world's tallest inversion at 197 feet.

The big picture: Kennywood's open for its 127th season — featuring new attractions like Kennywood Junction, a reimagined steel-town-themed area replacing Thomas Town.
