New DNC chair starts anti-Trump push in Pittsburgh

• Martin said the fight starts by winning as many local and statewide races as possible.

Driving the news: Martin, elected on Feb. 1, kicked off a national tour in McKeesport on Tuesday to rally and canvass with local Dems ahead of a special election in a Pittsburgh-area state House seat.

• State Rep. Matt Gergely (D-McKeesport) died unexpectedly last month after he was hospitalized with an undisclosed condition two weeks prior. Democrats have nominated McKeesport police officer Dan Goughnour for the seat, and Republicans picked Charles Davis, a White Oak borough councilor.

Reality check: Trump flipped Pennsylvania red in November, defeating former Vice President Harris by 1.5 percentage points.

• Republicans also flipped a U.S. Senate seat and swept the state's row offices.

What they're saying: Martin criticized Musk's role in the White House, calling him an "unelected billionaire" who has misled priorities, and called out Trump for not focusing on lowering prices of groceries, housing and gas like he promised.

• "We have to stiffen our spines as Democrats. We need to get ourselves in this fight. And realize that the stakes are so high for the American people right now," Martin said.

State of play: Martin will also visit Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas and Missouri as part of a tour to connect with voters outside Washington, D.C.

• "The important thing as a national party is to make sure we make sure we leave no county and no ZIP code uncontested," he said.

What's next: A special election to replace Gergely is set for March 25.
