During Black History Month, there are plenty of ways to celebrate and get educated in the Steel City, from evocative films to fun museum tours.
Starting Feb. 8
Join a Carnegie Museum of Natural History expert for a 30-minute tour exploring the history and contributions of members of the Black community to the field of science and nature. Runs Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout February.

Feb. 9
Bring the kids to Sunday Fun Day at Westmoreland and enjoy craft activities, live poetry, West African drumming performances, food from Black-owned vendors and a talk with Anthony B. Mitchell, former associate teaching professor at Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Feb. 12
Watch a screening of "The Hero," a film about four Angolans trying to reconstruct their lives during 40 years of ongoing war.

Feb. 15
Listen and learn about the creative process from artists during a talk organized by local Black-led organization BOOM Concepts that highlights the Collective Legacy II Exhibit on display at locations across the region.

Feb. 20
Award-winning author and journalist David Dennis Jr. hosts a lecture exploring the life of his father, a prominent leader in the Civil Rights Movement, and his role in organizing freedom rides, lunch counter sit-ins and voter registration drives in the Jim Crow South.

Enjoy the opening reception of A Just Pittsburgh exhibition, which will include performances, a gallery of award-winning art and a cocktail hour with local artists.

Feb. 24
Catch up with Pittsburgh native Chimechi Oparanozie for a special screening of "Unstoppable," the story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who won a national championship in 2011 and was born with one leg. Oparanozie, who played Robles' friend Brian Corwin in the film, will give a brief talk before the screening.
