Casey tries: The Cracked Pot in Middletown

I've had The Cracked Pot on my radar since moving to the 'burbs about a year ago, and finally made it to the converted Middletown home to try the famous crepes and oversized omelets.
State of play: This place epitomizes a hole-in-the-wall breakfast spot — good value, big portions and a space worthy of the wait you'll probably face on weekends.
The vibe: The charming layout reads more like a house than a restaurant, which is chopped into small dining rooms, tiny front and back patios, plus a two-seat bar tucked inside.
- It's easygoing and a little chaotic. The space mixes homey touches with kitschy, food-centric décor, mismatched furniture and rooms that feel more lived-in than designed.
The menu: Everything starts with the crepe, or at least it can.
- Crepes pack everything from fruit and Nutella to steak, bacon, eggs and hash browns.
- There's also a full diner lineup of biscuits and gravy, skillets and sandwiches, with reasonable prices mostly ranging from $8 to $12.
What I ordered: A three-egg omelet. It arrived looking less like breakfast and more like an egg brick.
- A very good egg brick, in fact — cheesy, filled with meats and veggies.
My breakfast guest went all in with bacon, eggs, hash browns and a biscuit they said was tasty, but not at all necessary.
- Because you can't skip crepes here, we split one with strawberries, whipped cream and powdered sugar.
