Halloween came early to the riverfront Saturday, where Kansas Citians dressed up to spend the morning with some of the city's hardest-working residents: goats.
Why it matters: The goats have spent weeks clearing invasive plants along the Riverfront Heritage Trail, giving the city a way to tackle overgrowth without chemical sprays near the Missouri River.
Zoom in: Port KC's first Goats and Ghouls brought visitors face-to-face with the riverfront's four-legged landscapers for a Halloween meet-and-greet.
- Guests could pet the goats, snap pictures and learn about their unusual day job.
- The herd from Goats Gone Green has been working its way through two acres of overgrown riverfront.
💭 My thought bubble: I've covered these goats enough times that showing up to their Halloween party felt like a professional obligation.
What's next: Once the goats finish clearing the brush, crews plan to spread hay and wildflower seeds to restore the area for pollinators, Goats Gone Green owner Kyle Alvis tells Axios.
