The Fold has spent the summer turning one of Kansas City's most celebrated former fine-dining rooms into a place you can walk into casually on a random Tuesday.
The big picture: The Fold arrived in a rough stretch for KC restaurants, which lost six notable spots in 2025 and at least five more so far this year.
Context: Corvino Supper Club ran the space for nine years and collected multiple nominations for the James Beard Awards, the restaurant world's top honors, and closed on New Year's Eve on its owners' own terms.
- The Fold, which opened in June, belongs to Amanda Accurso and Brandon Sharp, who own Roots Seasonal Cuisine, a gluten-free restaurant in Lee's Summit, and Todd Richards, who ran the bar there.
- Richards told the Star the phrase "fine dining" feels stuffy, so TVs hang near the bar. He kept Roots' all gluten-free approach, so diners with celiac disease can order anything on the menu without asking what's in it.
What they're saying: The Fold holds a 4.4-star rating across 46 Google reviews, and the pattern is hard to miss. Servers and bartenders get named and praised in review after review, and birthdays and anniversaries come up again and again.
- "The service and atmosphere were actually above five stars; nothing could have been better in these areas," one reviewer wrote.
Dig in: The beef sirloin tartare served on oyster shells ($20), the crispy rice and shrimp ($29) and the Thai lemon meringue ($10) draw the most repeat compliments from reviewers.
- Cocktails run $16 to $20, and if you finish your plate, a small amaro ice cream cone comes out free as a digestif.
- The Den, a late-night cocktail spot behind an unmarked door near the entrance, has started letting people in without a website, social media or an announcement. "If you know, you know," Richards said.
💭 Abbey's thought bubble: I celebrated my birthday early there with a friend. The Parmesan croquettes and crispy rice and shrimp were great; the Verdant and Aviary were better and the service beat both.
