KC Current's Chawinga makes FIFA history for Malawi

KC Current star forward Temwa Chawinga is leading the Malawi national women's team in a historic run — alongside her sister, Tabitha.

The big picture: Malawi qualified for its first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup, thanks to the dynamic scoring duo.

The latest: Malawi is moving on to the finals in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations after a 3-1 win over Algeria. (Sorry, Lawrence.)

Temwa scored one, and Tabitha scored two.

Context: Temwa Chawinga is one of the best players in the NWSL. She's the first to get back-to-back MVP titles, and she leads the NWSL in scoring percentage, scoring in more than 64% of her matches.

Tabitha Chawinga plays for OL Lyonnes in France's top league. Her team made it to the UEFA Women's Champions League final in May before losing to Barcelona.
