When Splitlog Coffee transferred ownership of its Historic Northeast location in 2022, I — having spent many fond days working there remotely — feared the worst.
- Those fears were unfounded, I discovered recently at the since-renamed Core Coffee & Eatery, much to my taste buds' delight.
The big picture: Business at the cheery neighborhood cafe is booming, with a significant menu of breakfast, brunch and lunch items, plus coffee drinks still made using Splitlog beans.
Zoom in: Owners Deana and Eric Bellamaganya, who have a Core Realty KC office in the same building, live nearby.
- Deana, who used to be general manager at the River Market's Farmhouse, tells Axios it's been their most successful year so far.
Dig in: I kept it simple with an English muffin sandwich, which comes with a choice of chipotle aioli or jam — some people ask for both, Bellamaganya says.
- I decided on jam and added avocado for a sweet-savory combination I won't soon forget.
- The Splitlog Coffee iced latte was as good as I remember it, and the interior design is dreamy (almost like they know how to stage a house).
If you go: It's located at 546 Olive St., KCMO. The street is a one-way with ample curbside parking.
- It opens at 7am most days, and 8am on Wednesdays and Sundays.
