Current Landing debuts town square, watch parties

The Kansas City Current debuted its new town square at Current Landing, including a video board the size of an apartment.
Why it matters: It's the team's gathering space outside the stadium, built to host watch parties and act as the welcome mat to everything teal.
- It's also the first finished element of Current Landing's phase one, which will include more than 400 apartments, multiple bars and restaurants, and a new park.
The latest: The team announced last month it would begin hosting outdoor watch parties during away games.
- I went to the first showing on April 24.
What to expect: There's parking across the street. Workers on site act as crossing guards and run security.
- The square connects to the stadium concourse, where you can buy merch and food and drink, and use the bathroom.
- Bring a blanket to sit on the turf, or rent a chair for $5.
By the numbers: The town square is about 2 acres, the team tells Axios.
- The video board is roughly 40 feet by 27 feet — big enough to fit a typical two-bedroom apartment.
What's next: The next watch party is May 20 at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm.
- Plus, the team says it will screen every major international match during the World Cup.
- Construction is expected to finish before then.
