After 10 years of planning, the KC Streetcar's new riverfront extension is almost ready to roll, and the media got the first ride ahead of its opening later this month.
Why it matters: The riverfront has been cut off from downtown for years. A three-minute streetcar ride finally bridges the gap.
The full system now spans 6.5 miles with 14 streetcars, up from a 2.2-mile, four-streetcar line that opened in 2016, according to the KC Streetcar Authority.
What's next: Opening day is May 18, with a free riverfront party running from noon to 2pm featuring live music, food trucks and games.
