Overland Park's new Clock Tower Landing is weeks away from opening, giving the suburb a year-round farmers market and a downtown gathering space.
The big picture: The project transforms a decades-old open-air market into a heated, indoor-outdoor pavilion the city plans to use for watch parties, concerts and community events, not just weekend shopping.
Between the lines: The timing isn't an accident. KC will host six FIFA World Cup matches, and Overland Park plans to pack Clock Tower Landing with watch parties all summer.

Context: Construction started in late 2024, and despite more than 16 inches of snow early on, the project is on time and on budget, Overland Park's Parks and Recreation director, Bryan Toben, tells Axios.
Zoom in: Garage doors on the north side, clerestory windows that open electronically, and ceiling fans will ventilate the space, which will be heated in winter but not air-conditioned in summer.
- A pedestrian walkway runs through the center of the pavilion, connecting Marty Street to the Clock Tower Plaza even when the market is closed.

State of play: The farmers market, currently operating out of Matt Ross Community Center on Marty Street, returns to its downtown home the day after the ribbon cutting.
- The market will run weekly from April through November, shift to a three-week holiday market after Thanksgiving, and then stay open as a winter market.
What they're saying: "Clock Tower Landing will be the home of the Overland Park Farmers Market. But beyond that, it is going to be so much more," says Toben.
- He says the design draws on Thompson Park and the Matt Ross Community Center to tie downtown together into a single district.

What's next: Shoppers will have to wait until June to shop in Clock Tower Landing. Crews are working six days a week to finish the roof, solar panels, shade structures and pavers before the doors open.
