KU, Mizzou women's basketball keep postseason alive

KU and Mizzou women's basketball aren't done yet — they're still playing this week in a postseason tournament after missing the top NCAA field.

The big picture: Teams that miss March Madness usually see their seasons end, but the 32-team Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) keeps a select group playing into late March and early April.

How it works: The WBIT launched in 2024 and serves as the women's counterpart to the men's National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

It is a 32-team postseason event for teams that did not make the 68-team NCAA Tournament, giving additional programs a chance to continue postseason play.

State of play: Both KU and Mizzou women's teams are still in the bracket.

Missouri beat Seton Hall 67-57 in the opening round and will face BYU on Monday night.
Kansas already picked up two wins, beating Troy 79-70 and Rice 62-55 to reach the quarterfinals, and will play San Diego State Thursday night.
If you're interested in watching, Missouri will face BYU at 8pm Monday night and Kansas will play San Diego State at 6:30pm Thursday night, with both games streaming on ESPN platforms.

The bottom line: KU and Mizzou didn't make the March Madness field, but the WBIT gives them another chance at a title.
