There's a new breakfast option in the Crossroads that's producing a biscuit sandwich in high demand and coffee sourced from individual farms.
The big picture: Take Care by Oleo (419 E. 18th St. in KCMO) officially launched its expanded food program Wednesday.
- The coffee shop opened in 2023 but previously offered only biscuits with spreads and bakery items.
Zoom in: Oleo is the direct-to-consumer brand that came out of wholesaler Marcell, a boutique roaster in the Crossroads that fuels places like Mildred's downtown and the Upper Crust in Overland Park.
- Take Care is the brick-and-mortar location for Oleo, the name a tribute to both the care coffee farmers give their product as well as the owners' own roots in small Midwest farming.

Dig in: Take Care has served its "now famous" biscuits since day one, gaining a following so ravenous the shop had to hire more help and expand its menu.
- The breakfast also includes biscuits and gravy ($8) and a malted waffle ($6).
- Specialty coffees have included beans fermented in peaches and watermelons. Wednesday's featured latte was carrot cake.
Stunning stat: The first time Take Care trialed its breakfast program, in December, it sold out in 90 minutes, owner Christopher Oppenhuis said on social media.
Travis' thought bubble: The biscuit sandwich ($9) has a crispy crunch that gives way to a soft, delicate inside, and the rich, herby aioli nicely complements the sage sausage: 10 out of 10.
If you go: Take Care is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7am to 1pm.
- Copious seating is available, including a big upstairs area with a sunny skylight.
