A new streetcar stop located at one of the most populated parts of Midtown is on its way to becoming a bicyclist's paradise.
The big picture: We're exploring the connectivity and rider experience of the KC Streetcar's Main Street Extension.
Next stop: Armour Boulevard.
What to expect: Getting off the streetcar here feels like stepping into a neighborhood, where tree-lined streets and red-brick apartment buildings stretch left and right.
- Green and white bike lanes point the way to homes, coffee shops, a bookstore and more.
What they're saying: "It's the east-west bike spine of our bike network," Tom Gerend, executive director of the KC Streetcar Authority, tells Axios. "And we're seeing more bikes onboard the streetcar."

Zoom out: To the east, Armour's bike lanes connect to the Gillham Road cycletrack, a 3.5-mile protected path spanning from the Crossroads to the Plaza.
- To the west, Broadway Boulevard has freshly painted bike lanes as part of a new road design set to wrap up in 2026.
💠Travis' thought bubble: Riding from Gillham to Broadway is smooth sailing. However, drivers on Broadway appear to be confused by the new configuration — I had to swerve into the road to avoid a car parked in the bike lane.

State of play: Mac Properties, which has an office and several residential buildings along Armour, has for years planned on building an additional 300 apartments, plus a restaurant and retail space, at the Main-Armour intersection, KCUR reports.
- Gerend, who calls the plan ambitious, says he's hopeful construction starts soon.
If you go: Bikes and strollers are allowed on streetcars in "priority seating" areas where seats fold up.
- Riders using wheelchairs get first dibs, and there might not be room during events and peak hours.
The bottom line: The Armour streetcar stop adds more ways to get around Midtown's most bikeable community.
