What's happening around KC this weekend

This is one of the last big fall weekends before the holidays take over, and it's going to be creative, a little weird and full of charm. Here are three things to do:

Puppets a Glow-Go

When and where: The event runs Friday and Saturday from 5–10pm on the north lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial.

What to know: The museum lawn will light up with illuminated puppets, fire spinners and aerial performers.

The free festival wraps with a new large-scale show, "The Fable of the Long Spoons," projected against the Memorial each night.

Blunderbuss! at The Rabbit Hole

When and where: The two-day symposium takes place Friday and Saturday at The Rabbit Hole in North Kansas City.

What to know: The symposium at the immersive children's literature museum celebrates author and illustrator Tomi Ungerer.

Expect conversations, workshops and the debut of a new art installation based on "The Three Robbers."

Oddities & Curiosities Expo

When and where: The expo runs Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm at the Kansas City Convention Center.

What to know: This national traveling market of the bizarre brings taxidermy, preserved specimens, skull art and horror-themed vendors to Bartle Hall.

There will be workshops, photo-ops and plenty of people-watching.
