Why Apple Maps looks different in Kansas City

Zoom in: Roads across the metro show turn lanes, transit and bike lanes, and even crosswalks. Navigation mode puts drivers in specific lanes.

• Elevation, buildings and landmarks — including stadiums, museums, performance venues, barbecue restaurants and even the KC Wheel — now show up as 3D renderings.
• Look Around mode puts users on the ground with augmented reality directions, and guides give in-depth information.

Between the lines: KC's rollout comes with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon. Apple Maps has updated cities in conjunction with big events such as the Super Bowl in New Orleans and F1 in Monaco.

Zoom out: The feature was launched in 2021 in San Francisco, London, Los Angeles and New York.
