It's a weekend of Halloween happenings for young families and partygoers alike. Here are three events that look frightfully fun.
Why it matters: Oct. 31 is one week away — so if you don't have a costume yet, you might want to get one.

Funkenstein Fest
This first-ever festival will celebrate electronic-funk music and Halloween at Legends Field in KCK, home of the Monarchs.
- The 18+ event runs Oct. 24-25 and includes headliners Big Gigantic and The Floozies. Tickets start at $44 for general admission and $20 for parking.
Boo at the Zoo
This annual event is included with Zoo admission ($10-$22) and gives kids a chance to get some candy and show their costumes off to the animals — as if they didn't think humans were weird enough.
- The event runs Oct. 25-26 from 9:30am to 5pm.
End of Days
Party like it's the end of the world at this 21+ KC! Live Halloween bash on Oct. 25, which will include DJs and a costume contest ($49 for general admission).
Trick-or-treating around KC
- Monster Market Bash at Merriam Market on Friday, 2-7pm
- Trick-or-Treat Trail at Stagecoach Park in Olathe on Friday, 5:30-7:30pm
- Trick-or-treat in Downtown OP at Thompson Park on Saturday, 1-3pm
- Trick-or-treat in downtown Parkville 12-4pm with other family activities through 9pm
- Spooky Springs at Wilbur Young Park in Blue Springs on Saturday, 6-8pm
- Trunk or Treat at North KC Parks and Recreation Center on Saturday, 1-3pm
