Heavy rain that began Wednesday led to flash flooding across the Kansas City metro, breaking a 57-year-old daily rainfall record and triggering emergency rescues.
By the numbers:2.78 inches of rain fell at Kansas City International Airport, more than doubling the previous July 16 record of 1.35 inches set in 1968.
8.98 inches of rain fell near Olathe, with 5.59 inches in Merriam.
7,000-plus Evergy customers were without power yesterday morning, with over 6,000 in Johnson County, Kansas, and 300+ in Jackson County, Missouri.
23 water rescues were performed by Kansas City firefighters as of yesterday morning.
