Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas is putting the ball back in the WNBA's court after KC was passed over for an expansion team.
The big picture: Lucas tells Axios the city has proven itself ready.
"Kansas City has the fanbase and facilities when the WNBA is ready and has led the way in demonstrating women's sports are the next economic success story for many cities throughout the country. Kansas City remains committed to landing a WNBA team and will continue to build strong relationships with leadership in the WNBA and other professional leagues to show all that Kansas City can offer."
