Pup-friendly patios are a dog a dozen in Kansas City, but not all bone-afide bars are created equal.
The big picture: My dog, Ollie, has some thoughts — mostly about snacks and belly rubs — but also about the dog-friendly bars where he's treated like royalty.
- Travis' thought bubble: And we all know the saying: If doggy ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
Bar K

Why he likes it: Ollie has been going to this off-leash dog park, restaurant and bar since the day of his adoption five years ago. He loves running up and down the small-dog features, jumping in little pools when it's warm and chasing mini tennis balls while his owners sip on beverages nearby.
What to try: It's hard to beat a Mango Cart on a hot day, and the brunch chicken and waffles weekend special is second-to-none.
- If Ollie is on his best behavior, he might get some meatballs off the doggy menu.
Casual Animal

Why he likes it: Some days are too hot to be outside. That's when Ollie most wants to visit this beautiful brewery, which allows well-behaved leashed dogs in its large open-concept beer hall.
What to try: Chaos Monkey and Luminary Canary are my favorite rotational flavors.

Honorable mentions
- Chicken N Pickle: Ollie doesn't know how to play pickleball (yet), but the turf yard full of games and outdoor seating is paw-fect for him.
- Brewery Emperial: A massive enclosed gravel patio with picnic tables, plants and top-tier pints make for a fun day in the sun.
- Cinder Block Brewery: Dogs aren't allowed in the taproom, but the fenced-in patio gives plenty of space for sniffing and stretching out.
