A new Margaritaville hotel in Kansas City, Kansas, is bringing a taste of the tropics to the prairies of the Sunflower State.
The big picture: Missouri and Kansas residents get a 15% discount on overnight stays with a valid ID, and day passes allow Parrotheads to watch the sun bake from the pool deck.
Zoom in: Day passes ($60 for adults, $20 for kids) are only available in person until July 1, when they will open up online.
- The pass only provides access to the outdoor pool and the poolside 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, according to hotel staff.
Dig in: The hotel's LandShark Bar & Grill is open to non-guests, serving up beachy tavern fare, frosty bevs and a signature beer — the LandShark Lager.
Context: The Jimmy Buffett-themed resort is part of a larger redevelopment project by Homefield KC, replacing the old Schlitterbahn water park with a massive youth sports complex.
What we're watching: Other projects underway in that development include a Topgolf and an immersive '90s movie museum.
