Unclaimed Baggage is preparing for a mainstay in shoppers' calendars across the South and beyond: Ski Sale.
Why it matters: The Ski Sale is a tradition for the famous Scottsboro store, offering name-brand apparel and gear at discounts as deep as 80% off retail.
Zoom in: Next Saturday, Nov. 7, will be the 45th annual Ski Sale at Unclaimed Baggage, and Jennifer Kritner, vice president of retail and company culture, said they've got more gear this year than ever before.
- "We do a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes," she told Axios.
- Throughout the year, when Unclaimed Baggage receives items like ski and snowboard equipment or outerwear from companies like Patagonia or North Face, they're set aside for the Ski Sale.

The latest: It's Kritner's 29th Ski Sale at the company, and she's got pro tips.
- "I encourage people to camp out," she said, noting that for $15, Unclaimed Baggage will provide a tent, sleeping bag and air mattress for that purpose.
- Work together, she said. Team up to divide and conquer: a friend can look for your size among the racks of jackets while you grab goggles and ski poles.
If you go: Unclaimed Baggage will have music, free pizza and s'mores.
- The rescheduled Scottsboro BBQ Festival is now set for Nov. 7, Kritner noted, and Unclaimed Baggage will provide shuttles to the free festival.
Catch up quick: The sale runs 8am-8pm, with new products brought out in waves throughout the day, and a second sales floor will be set up under a tent in the parking lot.
- "Hundreds will be lined up at the door before 8am, waiting for us to open the doors," Kritner said, encouraging folks to get there early — like 6:30-7am — even if you're not camping out.
- To mark the 45th anniversary, the first 45 people in line will get a $45 gift card and 45 minutes in the store by themselves starting at 7:15am, and the store is giving away a 2026-27 Epic Pass, a season pass to 90 destinations worldwide like Vail, Breckenridge and Park City.
The bottom line: "It's an experience like none other in the Southeast," Kritner said.
