223 applications, one successful landing in the Rocket City

The big picture: Morgan applied to those hundreds of jobs over two months, getting mainly the generic, "Thank you for applying, but unfortunately…" response, he told Axios Huntsville.

• Morgan, who earned his master's from Northwestern earlier this month and graduated magna cum laude from Howard University in May 2025, said his lack of experience was a sticking point with other potential employers.
• Late last month, he heard back from Fox 54 about landing the position as an anchor/reporter covering sports and news, which he starts at the end of September.

What they're saying: "Huntsville was on my list of cities to go to, as far as a smaller city with a chance to be on air starting out, (and) a place with diversity, a chance to cover sports with Alabama A&M and other schools in the area," he told Axios.

• "When I applied, I made sure to connect with people at the station I applied to, so they at least knew my name and I wasn't just another application," Morgan said.

Zoom in: That includes a slew of fellow Northwestern and Howard alums who got shout-outs in Morgan's LinkedIn post announcing the news, and other locals who helped show him around town.

• A Kannapolis, North Carolina native, he also noted that he met several folks mentioned in the post when they were all Boeing Summer Immersion Scholars with the Thurgood Marshall Fund.
