Major land decisions affecting more than 1,000 acres are moving through City Council today.
Why it matters: A vote tonight is set to determine whether developers can move forward with a massive new housing development on more than 500 acres in North Huntsville.
A move later in the meeting will set a date for when the council will vote on annexing almost 537 acres near US 72 and Little Cove Road.
The latest: The rezoning would facilitate the Harris Farms development, a plan to build 1,883 homes just north of Bob Wade Lane and west of Mount Lebanon Road near the Northern Bypass and North Memorial Parkway intersection.
Per the agenda, the development is planning to construct 1,538 single-family dwellings in both attached and detached buildings, as well as 345 units in multi-family buildings.
By the numbers: Plans show four sizes of single-family lots, including 548 of the smallest size, measuring 42 feet wide.
Another 623 will measure 52 feet wide, 226 will be 54 feet wide and 141 will be townhomes.
Plans also include various community amenities like dog parks, clubhouse, nature trails, pool and pickleball courts.
Zoom in: An ordinance will be introduced for a later vote on annexing 536.68 acres, dubbed the Cleary Farm Annexation, just west of the Gurley Recreational Center.
What we're watching: There's an update on the pedestrian bridge as part of Huntsville's PARC Project, colloquially dubbed "Skybridge."
The city could vote on providing almost $69,000 for an independent peer review consultant per an Alabama Department of Transportation requirement, bringing the total budget to just under $2 million.
That's per a letter from Miguel Rosales of architecture firm Rosales + Partners included with the agenda.
